Pope
So the Hitler Youth has stated his intention to resign his post as Pope. Your thoughts/reflections?

Apparently he's resigning because he feels that he's neither mentally nor physically strong enough to fulfil his responsibilities any more. Which I think is fair enough, the tradition of the papacy being a "job for life" is from an age where life expectancies were a lot lower than they are now, no-one really expected a pope to last much beyond his seventies. I thought actually that the last few weeks of the last pope were a bit morbid & grotesque, with the media & all the crowds hanging around in St Peter's square effectively waiting for the man to die. I remember tuning in to Sky News at one stage and seeing on their "breaking news" banner at the bottom of the screen "Update: Pope still alive". And that was in the days before twitter & Facebook, imagine how bad it'd be now?
I know you guys have many wierd & wonderful breeds of churches over there, are there any besides the "official" American Catholic Church that recognise the pope's authority?

Re: Pope
Miles I know of no other church that recognizes the authority of the Pope. But regarding this pope, I just assumed that he's old and tired. His health may be bad and he has trouble traveling and doing his duties now. So maybe he feels its best for the Church to let someone else take over.
