Pay special attention to the article. It has the root of the problem in it:

As a convicted felon, Spengler could not legally possess guns, but he had "several different types of weapons," Webster Police Chief Gerald Pickering said. Spengler was convicted in 1981 of first-degree manslaughter in the death of his grandmother and had been released on supervised parole.

The problem is with the system, not with an inanimate object.

Seeing as how firearms are not a common denominator, why do we continue blaming them. I see nobody blaming the car when a drunk driver kills a family. The problem is with the system and not an inanimate object.
