Yeah, happy paddy day. I ain't got no Irish in me, so I never saw the big deal we Americans make over it. Course south Louisianians never really do need an excuse to party. Our state motto translates to "let the good times roll".

Actually, I had one drink on paddys day, total. My wife was sick so we didn't go out. Paddys is overrated anyway, the pubs just get too crowded for comfort and you get served in plastic glasses, yech.
:-P

Do the Irish really drink that much Guinness and Jameson, or is that just a stereotype?

Depends on how much "that much" is really... :-P
We would drink a lot of Guinness and I suppose a good bit of Jameson as well, but they would be only two of the many many varieties of alcohol that we drink. Most guinness drinkers tend to be religious about it and won't drink anything else, but most people wouldn't be like that, we'll drink a wide variety of stuff. Also, most people wouldn't drink whisky, except as the occasional chaser, and of the people that do, I don't know of any hard-core Jameson following. Nowadays there are a lot of craft beer breweries after opening up, and a lot of pubs are starting to import more foreign beers (german, czech, polish, some belgian, you can even get even some chinese, thai & brazilian beers in some places!) so there's a lot more choice than we used to have.
Lemme guess, this is the stereotype of an irish bar?
On Paddys day tho, the reality is more like this:
but with the smell of sweaty bodies, spilled booze and vomit....
:-P

I like the expression on the girl second from the bottom right. I'm not sure what story she was telling, but it must have been epic!

Look between the two guys in the front on the right. I think she's trying to imitate a shark.

Got some pics from my friends in Cali. They went to a place called Rooney's Irish Pub for St. Paddy's. It is a nice place down in Orcutt. What I found funny was that it was a bunch of Hispanics celebrating at an Irish pub owned by a Slav.

In Fresno, lots of the Mexican restaurant/bars have huge parties. Its an excuse to get drunk and act like a jack ass and nothing more.

I also get a kick outta a Slavic man building and opening an Irish bar.
Why not build and open a Slavic bar???
I guess he goes with the money. Can't really blame him.
Lot's of Slavs in that area BTW.
How did they get there Bryant??? It seems all the white people are Slavic.

Perhaps in that area, but not in most of California. My mother is from Las Vegas, and her mother is from DC. That side of the family is mostly English (lost of nobles and several former monarchs), German, and French. My dad's side has been around the area a bit longer, his mom's side is Danish and his dad's Irish. My heritage is mostly north-western European. No Slav.
Lots of people of Irish, Norwegian, German, and English decent came over the California during the gold rush in the late 1800's. Lots of Chinese and Japanese came at the same time, although for different reasons (the Chinese did a little mining, mostly build roads and railways; the Japanese largely went into farming in the Central Valley, although most of their descendants lost everything due to the racist policies of the 1940's) and by different methods. In the subsequent years waves of immigrants from Portugal (lots of Portuguese ranchers), Laos/Vietnam/Cambodia (lots of Hmong were settled in the Central Valley), India (lots of recent Indian immigrants, lots of Sikhs), China, Japan, Armenians, etc. I'm not aware of much of a slavic community in the Fresno area, so your guess is as good as mine why there would be many in SLO county.

Hmm. let's look at the sterotypes:
Irish bar: lively, always busy, lots of decorations on the walls/ceiling (guinnes/jameson mirrors are obligatory :-P), lots of music & people chatting, good entertainment, known and loved all over the world.
Slavic bar: Mostly grey and featureless, a couple of guys with no necks and shaved heads sitting at the bar not talking and either morosely staring into their pint of (admittedly very good) beer, or watching Jagiellonia Białystok playing Lech Poznań in the Ekstraklasa on a TV in the corner with the sound turned down.
:-P

You want to see where the Irish ended up, check it here: America's most Irish Towns! :-P
(answer, we ended up pretty much frickin' everywhere)
So how many of us you got in your town?
