This is sort of a variant from the old tree falling in the forest quandary. If not for life - in particular, sentient life - to gaze upon and witness the vastness and complexities of the universe, then would it matter whether or not existence really existed?

Would it be like a movie playing to no audience? Would it be of any consequence? Would it be as if it never existed at all?
