Should the United States have eliminated communism in North Korea Korean_war_us_soldier

The Korean War was a war between the Republic of Korea (South Korea), supported by the UN and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North Korea), at one time supported by the Chinese and the USSR.

The question is, knowing what you know about Korea now, should the US  have refused to sign the armistice and continued to fight until N. Korea was conquered?

Yeah, that would have been a problem.  What do you think about MacArthur though?  He was a WW2 hero.  Medal of Honor recipient.  But was he a loose cannon?  China had received heavy casualties and MacArthur called on China to admit it had been beaten.  Plus we had a plan to use nukes if China began making headway.  (I didn't know that btw).
 
But this sounds a little like Patton wanting to push into Russia after Germany surrendered.  Should we have done either?
