TV star tweets on guns, loses half her following
Merely tweeting about guns these days can prove to be volatile, especially for those in Hollywood.
Case in point is actress Katee Sackhoff, best known for her TV roles as agent Dana Walsh on “24″ and pilot Kara “Starbuck” Thrace on “Battlestar Galactica.”
After having seen a news report about a four-year-old boy who accidentally shot and killed his father with a loaded gun that was left unattended at a friend’s house in Prescott Valley, Ariz., the action star tweeted Monday: “Please practice gun safety. This is horrible!”
It didn’t take long for the powder to ignite as Sackhoff’s Twitter feed was targeted by followers voicing support for gun control instead of gun safety.
“Here’s a radical idea folks. How about NO gun?” wrote Johnny Dosh.
Robin Plomp claimed, “Guns and kids don’t mix. I’ve got two kids at home, just thinking the trouble they can get into WITHOUT a gun.”
Sackhoff, 33, received support from some fans including Steven Schaufler, who tweeted: “No guns? Yeah, that’ll work … but only in Fantasy Land! Decent people need the ability to protect themselves from evil.”
She responded to her opponents’ push for no guns in America, saying, “Never gonna happen in the US. Proper gun safety is a necessity though.”
Sackhoff added: “Well I guess I just learned talking about #GunSafety inspires a massive debate. Pro-Gun or Anti-Gun SAFETY should be unanimous!”
She concluded the discussion by noting: “On a lighter note since I’ve lost half my followers due to talking about gun safety … the sun is shining and Happy Monday. Love your neighbor today.”
Fox News reported Sackhoff’s initial comment “apparently cost her about 100,000 Twitter followers,” as she was left with some 98,000 followers on Monday. But her following appears to be on the rebound, having surpassed the 119,000 mark on Wednesday.
Mark T. Clemente tweeted to her: “Real fans won’t leave you for wanting people to handle firearms in a safe, responsible way.”
Another fan, Carrie Dufresne wrote that Sackhoff had no cause for concern.
“You’ve lost the crazy people,” she tweeted. “The logical people stick around and understand what you’re saying.”
Johnny Dosh, who initially tweeted Sackhoff to suggest guns be outlawed admitted he was personally thrilled by the end of the conversation as he gushed, “My heart has just skipped a beat. I’ve had a tweet from Starbuck. I can die a happy man. I feel like a star struck kid.”

Good for Katie! I remember her from my favorite show '24' of a couple of years ago.
On another note....I'm happy with the new WYSIWYG editor here Bryant! Lots more control. Thanks man!
