Yeah, That's funny Mexico
Well it seems that the Mexican government wants tUSA to have a firearm registry in our border states. What do they need that for??? Considering the cartels run that country, I hope our government tells them to F-off.

I would also like to say that the ATF is full of crap on this. Yeah, tUSA may be Mexico's biggest supplier of arms, but much of that is inflated due to our own government's involvement. Much of it also comes from China via the US in illegal arms trade. I looked for the story to link, but about a year ago a Chinese merchant ship was caught with several thousand Norico rifles. The ship made harbor in South Cali, but the guns were to be brought south of the border. Most of these weapons were fully automatic. An automatic weapon, while technically legal for purchase in tUSA, is very, very expensive here......and even harder to get. Meanwhile that Norinco stuff is cheap as the summer day is long.
Norico is China's state gun manufacturer and make Chinese versions of AK type rifles.

Thought you had to have a special permit and background checks to own full auto.

Apparently you understand the point of the request about as well as you understand the dynamics of the Mexican government. The national government is not controlled by the cartels, hence the huge number of casualties in the war between the cartels and the Mexican military (including the capture/deaths of several cartel heads). Its likely that the Mexican government wants a registry so we can track where the cartels are buying guns in the United States and help halt the flow of weapons into their country (cartels smuggle drugs from Mexico to the US, then cash and guns from the US back into Mexico).

Yeah, and a large tax stamp and the weapon had to be built prior to 1984.

As already stated, US gun shops are not where they get the bulk of their armament......unless the ATFE allows it. They get their weapons from the same place street gangs do.....the black market. Since we have lax borders and better ports, it is easier for the illegal weapons to come here first, then get brought down south (once again refer to the Norinco shipments).
Knowing this, the request is nothing more than BS.
The national government is indeed infiltrated by the cartels. In fact the national government is toothless. They are not the ones responsible for the bulk of the damage done to cartels.....that is done by rivals. As far as the army of Mexico is concerned, they are a joke and are deeply embedded in the pockets of the cartels........they are made up of many ex-military leaders. In fact they are nothing more than Mexico's first attempt at controlling the drug trade. That attempt really backfired on them.
