I wonder what the officer's responsibility is?  I think thats the golden question.  If it has anything to do with building physical security, there might be good reason (IRS buildings periodically get attacked).

All I can say for sure is that the IRS didn't let me play with an AR15 during training (yes, I worked for the IRS...for one day).

I heard about this...on Glen Beck's show I think.  Why do the IRS need weapons anyway?

The IRS does have an enforcement division. Since the members of that division are on scene for arrests, I can see the need for a standard issue pistol. Since the heavy lifting will be done by other agencies, I do not see the need for standoff weaponry in IRS agents' hands. The AR-15(most likely they were really select fire M-4's) is a definate standoff weapon.

Or why would the social security admin need 200,000 hollow point bullets?

Maybe im just paranoid, but it seems to me like the DHS is preparing itself. Im sorry, its just very very strange to me, the level of federal law enforcement we have now. Theyre stockpiling ammo, armored vehicles and who knows what the hell else? I dont necessarily think its being done as part of some plan to impose martial law, but they have to be planning for something more serious than occupy protesters.

I dunno.  One of the things that bothers me is how the Govt allocates money.  Back when I was in the Navy we were told we had ..."X" number of dollars our shop could spend and if we didn't spend it all, we wouldn't get as much money next year.  So when we ran out of things we needed, we wound up requisitioning things that had nothing to do with our job.  Just so we could get that money.  Crooked as heck!  I mean, rather than using the standard coffee pot our shop had (nothing wrong with it) we would end up getting some top of the line thing with all sorts of bells and whistles.  We didn't even know how to use it!  Or a thousand dollar vacuum cleaner.  What did we need a vacuum cleaner for....we didn't have any carpet!

Wasn't my call though.  But serious govt waste.
